The college essay is definitely something a lot of high students – including myself – worried about and it’s hard to think of a good topic to write about.

Now that I’m at Emory University, my best advice would be to not sound generic. Resist the urge to impress the admission officer with your intelligence or achievements. Instead remember to try to have fun writing it .

Ask yourself this “If I was a 80- year old person lying in my bed and I was to read this essay would I regret writing this? If not, I’m going to be fine no matter what happens.”

During highschool, try to set free time to have fun every once in a while. Don’t feel too bad about procrastinating. Forgive yourself. You will need to do it a lot in life. 🙂

Write about some experience that only YOU would do such as –  reading Reddit explainlikeimfive at 3am, watching a YouTube rap song remix with friends, or reciting Obama speeches while pooping.

Overall, write about an experience that you think will show some sort of unique perspective that you’ve gained after living 18+ years.

You have to be creative but again remember to not stress too much about the college essay. Remember that you can’t control rejection you can only just try your best and surrender everything else to luck, God, and Lady Fortune.

“I have learned, that the person I have to ask for forgiveness from the most is: myself. You must love yourself. You have to forgive yourself, everyday, whenever you remember a shortcoming, a flaw, you have to tell yourself “That’s just fine”. You have to forgive yourself so much, until you don’t even see those things anymore. Because that’s what love is like.” – C. JoyBell C.

In the end, going to a good college doesn’t decide everything so don’t get too jealous when you’re friends start bragging about the great schools they got into.

Be grateful to have the chance to even go to college and do your best to have fun in the daily struggles of life. Remember that worrying about which college you go to is actually a first-world problem. HEHEHE

So remember to get more sleep, meditate, jog, eat healthy foods, and don’t take the highschool application process too seriously! Life is freaking hard so enjoy all the fun moments! 🙂
